*The Wood River Valley*
Previously home to the Shoshoni and Bannock Indian Tribes, The Wood River Valley saw it's first settlers in the 1870's with the discovery of gold, silver and lead in the West.
Ketchum was established in 1880. Restaurants, hotels, saloons and other businesses common to mining towns of the era quickly grew until the turn of the century when mining took a drastic downturn. Businesses and revenues dwindled to a low of 100 people in Ketchum.
It wasn't until the 1930's when the area was selected as a destination ski resort that Sun Valley found itself on the map again, hosting the most famous celebrities of the day. Sun Valley became noted for excellent service, beautiful surroundings and a lifestyle that to this day is very attractive to all who visit and live here. |
